Global Disaster Prevention Symposium 2026

The "Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Whole Society Resilience Building, Preparedness and Response Workshop" opened grandly today (4th) at the Taipei Marriott Hotel. This workshop is jointly hosted by Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, the Australian Office, and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei. It attracted government officials, scholars, and industry representatives from 30 countries worldwide, with a total of 264 domestic and international experts gathering to explore how to strengthen social resilience to address increasingly severe global challenges.

This workshop focuses on six core issues: "whole society resilience consensus building, civilian training and utilization, strategic material inventory and distribution, energy and critical infrastructure maintenance, social welfare medical care and shelter facility preparation, and information, transportation and financial network security." It also arranges for international enterprises to share resilience preparedness and emergency plans, hoping to enhance cooperation capabilities between government and private sectors in disaster prevention and crisis response through cross-national experience exchange. Minister of the Ministry of Interior Liu Shih-fang specially thanked the participating international guests, stating that Taiwan, as part of the democratic society, warmly welcomes partners from various countries to come and share experiences. We will seriously listen to all suggestions provided by experts, and the arrival of experts from various countries holds extraordinary significance for us.

This workshop not only received high international attention but also demonstrated the Taiwan government's high regard, including President Lai Ching-te attending the opening ceremony to deliver remarks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Digital Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the National Security Council all actively sent personnel to participate, showing the government's determination and action capability in establishing whole society resilience. The workshop also arranged for foreign guests to visit the Ministry of the Interior National Fire Agency Training Center, sharing how Taiwan builds response capacity through strengthening disaster prevention education and training for fire personnel, military, government agencies, private enterprises, volunteer firefighters, and disaster prevention volunteers, and deepens Taiwan's partnership with the region through international training cooperation to build regional resilience cooperation.
